Development Process
Missing Winter is a walking simulation created through Unity for my Game Dev Classes.
Inspiration came from the embodiment of a snowglobe and what it symbolizes, It Takes Two, Holiday Market and personal experience.
Early Development:
I struggled with bringing my concept to life as it felt a bit lacking when I was first building.I had some difficulty with finding cohesive assets that would look good together, I felt quite discouraged and this led me to seek other ideas.I felt that I was forcing myself to make my concept fit into other ideas for the sake of having enough assets however after going back and forth about changing I tried to refine my original idea with concept sketches and have several focuses. Defining my idea and theme visually guided me to find essential elements/ assets and build around that.
Middle Process:
Playtesting in between helped a lot to understand what my game was lacking, needed more work on and what was doing well. It helped me see if my goals were being met and got me to develop my game further based on the feedback.
Troubleshooting:
There was an issue with anm asset I downloaded and it caused a huge set back and compiled a lot of errors. I went back and forth trying to fix this myself and asking my peers and professor for help. Since having the problem, I couldn’t build my game properly and certain features like Post-Processing no longer worked. I managed to get the game to work properly.
End Process:
Lighting and Sound were refined last after getting player feedback.
Reflection
I feel like there’s smaller tweaks that can be made but overall the game has been able to achieve the player experience I wanted and I am proud of it. I had a lot of fun working on the project based on the feedback I got and was rewarded with my Playtesters feeling cozy and relaxed which was my goal.
Thank you to my teachers and my friends for the help and encouragement!!
